Violeta Salonen – the alter ego of the dancer Austėja Vilkaitytė began as a character of a woman who dances alone, wears a purple nightgown and shares the heirloom, memories and promises of her life in Fabijoniškės and Justiniškės - Vilnius sleeping-disctricts. The character was created through artist's interaction with 'interior archive' of two owned apartments in these districts, that evoked her memory of the personal and social, political actions happening in Europe after 1990.

Violeta brings drops of her memories and objects on stage representing soviet times, mixing it with typical so-called Euro-renovations home décor, “Neckermann” catalogue aesthetics, kitsch and Internet culture. A chocolate tree also comes into the spot light, representing certain socio-economic class, suburban subculture and is used as the artist's 'gun' for fighting violence.

During the performances Violeta applies various rituals and telepathic dance to animate the objects and the surrounding space. Choreography is born from mixing dance rituals performed with 'fake' clothing and perfume brands, laminated floor planks, SONY music centre and chocolate tree, with 'relaxing body and mind' meditation music on by first search choice in Google.

A. Vilkaitytė is searching for women's identity by confronting main social clichés for women found in social media in Lithuania and abroad. She prefers to take mediator's position as a critique, embracing the issues and presenting them in poetic ways.

Violeta Salonen. External Sensations is a dance performance created and premièred in Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) cinema hall as part of the new performance and live art programme Month of Promises curated by Monika Lipšic.

Violeta Salonen. External Sensations is one of two-part project SENSATIONS. Another series - Internal Sensations - is in the making process.
